چکیده

Rigidity is one of the major signs of P a r k i n s o n ’s disease (PD). However, its pathophysiology has rarely been studied. This appears a little surprising since data obtained from animal physiology, which offers a scheme of neuronal circuits that might be hyperor hypoactive, could be useful in the study of muscle tone problems, a classical area in neurological semiology. Experimental models of PD have not yet been analysed using neurophysiological techniques. Thus, the information currently available derives from clinical data and clinical neurophysiology.

The effect of intrastriatal injection of estrogen on pallidal field potential and rigidity in Parkinsonian -ovariectomized rats

The major pathological feature of Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive loss of dopamine-producing neurons of the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc), resulting in a reduction of dopamine (DA) content in the target field of these neurons, the striatum (STR). The present evidences suggest that female sex hormones may influence the onset and severity of PD symptoms. PD is more prevalent in m...

اثر مهار آنزیم سیکلواکسیژناز-2 بر سفتی عضلانی مدل حیوانی بیماری پارکینسون

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a degenerative neurodopaminergic disease in nigrostriatum pathway of animals and human, the resultant loss of nerve terminals accompanied by dopamine-glutamate and other related neurotransmitters-imbalances in this pathway are responsible for most of the movement abnormalities. Increasing evidence suggests that an inflammatory reaction accompanies the pat...

Studies on induced exacerbation of Parkinsonian rigidity: The effect of contralateral voluntary activity.

Recent increasing interest in surgery of the basal ganglia for tremor and rigidity in Parkinsonism would seem to warrant more critical measures for evaluating these symptoms, not only for the purpose of assessing surgical results but also to elucidate the underlying neurological mechanisms. Parkinsonian symptoms, especially rigidity and tremor, are frequently unstable and may vary with the pati...

Subthalamic nucleus stimulation reverses spinal motoneuron activity in parkinsonian patients.

Although a cardinal symptom of Parkinsonian disease, up to now, rigidity has been investigated much less than spasticity in hemiplegic patients. Many pathophysiological mechanisms may at least theoretically contribute to Parkinsonian rigidity, from altered viscoelastic muscle properties to inability of parkinsonian patients to relax. However, as demonstrated many years ago, motoneuron responses...

Contralateral Activation and Enhanced Rigidity in Parkinson’s Disease: Neural and Non-neural Contributions

INTRODUCTION Parkinsonian rigidity is described as a uniform increase in resistance to passive motion throughout the entire range of motion. Evidence indicates that rigidity is influenced by both non-neural and neural factors. The non-neural component of rigidity is the result of alterations in the mechanical properties of the muscle and connective tissues [1]. The neural mechanisms underlying ...
